Expansion to Increase Service Capacity to Meet Growing Customer Needs in the Grizzly Valley

CALGARY, Alberta – Spectra Energy (NYSE: SE) has successfully completed expansion of its natural gas gathering system in the Grizzly Valley area of northeastern British Columbia (BC). The project represents the third phase of expansion connected to the Pine River Processing Plant, near Chetwynd, BC, and includes 17 kilometres of new pipeline (parallel to existing lines), an additional 40 million cubic feet per day of gathering capacity, and modifications at the Pine River facility to accommodate the increased delivery of gas.

“We are seeing continued interest in exploration and development activity in the Grizzly Valley area and are focused on timely and staged expansions to meet the needs of our customers for increased service capacity,” said Duane Rae, vice president, Field Services, Spectra Energy Transmission West. “Our project execution team and operations personnel did an exceptional job of ensuring this project was completed and in-service as scheduled.”

At the height of the Pine River Phase III Project in September, 2008, more than 225 people were involved in its construction.
