Market Hub Partners To Expand Moss Bluff Facility By 6.5 Bcf
HOUSTON – Market Hub Partners Holding (MHP) will add approximately 6.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working capacity at its Moss Bluff natural gas storage facility by developing a fourth cavern at the Liberty County, Texas site. In addition to the cavern expansion, surface facilities will be upgraded to provide increased interconnectivity to the interstate pipeline network.
Moss Bluff is a high deliverability salt cavern storage facility with 15 Bcf of current working capacity. MHP also owns the Egan Hub facility, a 20 Bcf high deliverability salt cavern storage facility located in Acadia Parish, La. MHP is a 50/50 joint venture between Spectra Energy Corp (NYSE: SE) and Spectra Energy Partners, LP (NYSE: SEP).
“The demand for high deliverability natural gas storage services continues to expand in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast markets,” said Mark Fiedorek, group vice president at Spectra Energy Transmission. “This expansion of the Moss Bluff facility will enhance our ability to accommodate our customers’ growing natural gas service needs on a timely basis for additional capacity with multiple injection and withdrawal cycles.”
A permit for the cavern expansion has been secured from the Texas Railroad Commission, the state agency responsible for oversight of the facility’s operations.
Construction is expected to commence on the upgraded surface facilities this summer and could go into service as early as the first half of 2009. Cavern 4 is expected to be in service in the summer of 2011, with a final working capacity of 6.5 Bcf.
“This expansion exemplifies Spectra Energy Partners’ access to organic growth opportunities that increase distributable cash over the long term,” said Greg Harper, president and chief executive officer of Spectra Energy Partners.
