Spectra Energy Kicks off 2008 “Helping Hands in Action” Volunteer Initiative
Employee Volunteer Projects Scheduled Throughout April
HOUSTON – Spectra Energy employees across the southeast United States will spend this month working to make a difference in their communities during the company’s second annual “Helping Hands in Action” volunteer effort that begins today.
Throughout April, company employees and retirees will participate in company-sponsored volunteer projects designed to enhance the areas where they live.
“We believe in giving more than financial support to the communities where we work and live,” said Fred Fowler, president and chief executive officer of Spectra Energy. “Our employees’ investment in sweat equity projects demonstrates our commitment to being a good neighbor and the caring nature of our employees.”
In Houston, projects include a beach clean up in Galveston, repairing the home of an elderly Houstonian through Rebuilding Together Houston and conducting a blood drive to benefit the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
Other projects include:
- Planting a garden at the entrance of an elementary school in Jackson, Miss.
- Beautification of the Blessing Community Center in Blessing, Texas
- Landscaping the entrance of an elementary school in Kingsport, Tenn.
- Clearing brush and leveling land at the IJAMES Nature Center, Knoxville, Tenn.
- Enhancing a picnic shelter at an elementary school in Abingdon, Va.
“We support employee volunteer projects throughout the year, but Helping Hands in Action represents our concentrated period of volunteerism,” said Regan Kasman, Spectra Energy’s manager of community relations.
Employees in the northeast U.S. and Canada will participate in the Helping Hands in Action initiative beginning June 1.
