Ensuring Health, Safety and Well-being

We encourage the health, safety and well-being of our employees by promoting work-life flexibility and healthy lifestyles. We emphasize employee safety through safety-focused events, awareness drives, leadership communications, incident reporting and assessment.

Our health and wellness support efforts include smoke-free work environments, motivational programs to encourage employees to become more active, a full fitness facility in our Houston office, and health and well-being committees and events in many of our offices.

We help our people plan for disasters, advocating cold weather precautions in some areas and hurricane preparedness in others. To further promote well-being and work/life flexibility, we have an optional “Flex Fridays” plan that allows employees to have alternate Fridays off, and we are piloting a “Telework” program that, if adopted, will allow some employees to telecommute on selected days.

Our Employee Assistance Program is a professional, confidential service to help employees resolve personal concerns. It includes short-term counseling and referrals to other personal and family services as needed.

When asked if their manager/supervisor is considerate of their lives outside work, our employee survey responses ranked Spectra Energy seven points higher than North American high performance companies.
