Asset Integrity

We actively manage the integrity of our assets across our operations in order to protect our employees and the public and to ensure the reliable delivery of natural gas to our customers.

Our well-established Integrity Management Program, one of the key elements we are rolling into our Operations Performance Assurance framework, includes systematic management and maintenance practices that are designed to mitigate the threats that our facilities are exposed to in the areas where they operate. Practices include the use of sophisticated inspections devices and aerial patrols of our pipelines.

In 2009 we established a risk-based maintenance prioritization process in our US Transmission operations. This approach was expanded to include our Canadian businesses -- Union Gas and Western Canada Transmission and Processing-- in 2010, allowing us to risk rank our maintenance projects and to ensure the effective and efficient allocation of resources to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Our leadership and commitment to pipeline integrity has earned us respect and credibility across the industry. We are recognized as an advisor of choice on pipeline integrity by the US Department Of Transportation and we also participate on or lead committees focused on pipeline integrity in major industry associations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, the Southern Gas Association, the American Gas Association, the Canadian Gas Association and the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association.
