Growing our Business
We grow our business by adding infrastructure capacity and services. Since our spin-off in 2007, we have placed into service 47 fee-based expansion projects totaling more than $4 billion. Over the next five years, we have plans to invest approximately $5 billion per year in additional growth projects.
Growing demand for natural gas results in increases in our pipeline throughput and leads to expansion of our facilities to meet customer needs. Our strategically located assets connect conventional and unconventional natural gas supplies with four of the five fastest-growing markets in North America.
When we build new infrastructure, we take a long-term view of the economic, environmental, and social impacts of our projects. We have sharpened our project execution skills and capabilities to keep our projects on-track and avoid surprises. Our project execution group, responsible for managing all aspects of complex projects, has implemented exacting project development and execution standards using a full-lifecycle, risk-based approach. The results of this approach are evident – in 2010, our half a dozen pipeline, storage and processing growth projects were delivered on time and within budget.
Spectra Energy Partner’s acquisition of Ozark Gas Transmission in 2009 demonstrated our ability to pursue both “buy” and “build” strategies, depending on which avenue makes sense for our business, investors and customers.
Our innovative energy services complement our core business, generate revenue, help make our customers more competitive and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These services include:
- Demand-side management programs that help our retail, commercial and industrial customers use energy more efficiently, reducing both costs and emissions.
- Operating services and waste heat projects that allow customers to generate and sell near-zero-emission electricity.
- Capturing and sequestering naturally occurring carbon dioxide contained in our customers’ natural gas, making their gas cleaner and commercially viable.
