Gulfstream delivers about 1.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to Florida - that’s enough to produce electricity for 4.5 million homes. Extending from Mobile, Alabama, across the Gulf of Mexico and into Florida, the Gulfstream pipeline helps Florida continue to meet the energy needs of its growing population.
Gulfstream’s Phase II project extends its Florida mainline by about 110 miles from Polk County to Martin County. The pipeline is part of a 23-year agreement for Gulfstream to provide up to 350 million cubic feet a day of firm natural gas transportation to serve Florida Power & Light’s Martin and Manatee power plant expansions.
Additional pipeline extensions, Phase III and Phase IV, are planned and have received FERC filings. Phase III will extend the pipeline approximately 35 miles south from martin to Palm Beach County. The entire 35-mile pipeline extension is scheduled to be placed into service in July 2008.
The Phase IV expansion will involved construction of approximately 17.8 miles of 20-inch pipeline in Tampa Bay connecting the existing Gulfstream pipeline to the Bartow Power plant. The expanded pipeline construction is scheduled to be in-service September 2008.
As the largest pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico, Gulfstream provides Florida with a clean-burning, environmentally friendly and cost effective energy solution.
Gulfstream is a partnership between Spectra Energy and Williams. The pipeline is operated by Williams.
