Delivering, Storing and Transporting Natural Gas

Union Gas, one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2012, is a major Canadian natural gas storage, transmission and distribution company based in Ontario with 100 years of experience and service to customers. Union Gas has assets of $5.6 billion and approximately 2,200 employees.

Local Distribution Business in Ontario

Union Gas is the second largest natural gas utility in Canada. Through a network of about 38,961 miles of distribution mainlines and service lines, Union Gas delivers safe, reliable and affordable natural gas service to over 1.4 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in more than 400 communities across northern, southwestern and eastern Ontario.

The company's investments help power Ontario's economic growth and contribute to a cleaner, greener economy. The energy-efficiency programs Union Gas has pioneered are empowering its customers to use natural gas even more efficiently, resulting in lower energy bills and reduced environmental impact.

Storage and Transportation Business
Union Gas's growing storage and transportation business offers customers premium storage and transportation services to and from the Dawn Hub. Located 22 miles southeast of Sarnia, Ontario, the Union Gas Dawn Facility is a world class natural gas trading hub. The Dawn Facility is the largest underground storage facility in Canada with 155 billion cubic feet of high deliverability storage. At Dawn, customers also have access to significant take away capacity and interconnectivity with numerous pipelines, making the Dawn Hub an important link in the movement of natural gas from Western Canadian and U.S. supply basins to markets in central Canada, the Great Lakes region and the northeast U.S.

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) regulates most Union Gas facilities in Ontario. This regulation includes the construction of new natural gas pipeline and storage facilities, the operations of pipelines and the commercial operation of pipelines including the determination of rates and rate structure. The OEB also provides advice on energy matters referred to it by the Minister of Energy and the Minister of Natural Resources. Additional information is available at http://www.ontarioenergyboard.ca.

The National Energy Board (NEB) also regulates some of our Union Gas pipelines. The NEB is an independent federal agency that regulates international and interprovincial aspects of the oil, gas and electric utility industries including construction, operation, rate regulation and abandonment of pipelines that cross Provincial or International Borders. The NEB is accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Natural Resources Canada.
