Helping Hands Give Back
Volunteerism is part of the fabric of Spectra Energy’s culture. Our employees roll-up their sleeves through our Helping Hands in Action Volunteer Program. In 2015, our volunteers undertook 435 projects across Spectra Energy’s footprint investing more than 30,500 hours of volunteer time.
For example, a team spent two days making more than 500 lunches for Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, which prepares, packs and delivers lunch to hungry school kids who would otherwise go without.
Giving back to the community gives our employees the opportunity to work with other employees they may not interface with on a regular basis, provides great deal of personal satisfaction and allows our employees to gain valuable leadership skills which helps propel Spectra Energy forward.
25 Years as a Million-Dollar Donor
The Houston employees brought another United Way campaign to a successful and record-breaking close. An astounding $1,805,200 was raised to help the United Way create lasting change in the community. This marks the 25th year of giving more than a million dollars to the United Way of Greater Houston – a feat achieved by only four other companies in Houston.
“The communities where we live and work expect great things from Spectra Energy. And time and time again, our employees demonstrate their commitment to community stewardship by not only meeting those expectations, but exceeding them, ” said Greg Ebel, president and CEO.
Spectra Energy values vibrant communities and win-win relationships. Our employees’ personal giving along with the company’s dollar-for-dollar match helps the United Way address local societal issues, thereby improving the community as a whole.
